Pharmacovigilance study in geriatric patients of a tertiary care hospital

Introduction: The aim was to assess, categorize and analyze the adverse drug reactions among geriatric patients in a tertiary care hospital. 
 Methods: All of reported at Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Center, Sri Venkateswara Medical College, Tirupati, under Pharmacovigilance programme India, during September 2016 January 2018 were identified evaluated. A retrospective analysis carried out for ADR pattern, groups, organ systems implicated suspect ADR, demographic profile, causality (as per WHO–UMC scale), severity (Hartwig Seigel preventability (Schumock Thornton criteria) said drug.
 Results: total 120 ADRs received patients. Most occurred male geriatrics (55.83 %) (34.2 age group 60- 64 years. Antibiotics comprised major drugs causing (18.3 %). related gastrointestinal most common with 31.7 % followed by skin disorders (15 central nervous system (13.3 As assessment scale, majority found be possible (51.7 %).
 Conclusions: There 60.8 being mild 39.2 moderate as scale. non-serious (33 serious category, 27.5 required intervention prevent permanent damage.
